14 Let’s continue to read this book and try to listen if there are clues as to what the text structures are so far in this book.

15 Living in the troposphere, we feel the weather in the temperature of the air Tropo means change Weather is what's happening at the bottom of the atmosphere. Living on planet Earth there are different types of weather happening Weather The sun not warming the Earth evenly The atmosphere lets the sunlight pass through. Sunlight heats the ground The heat warms the surface that dissipates toward the atmosphere This is called the greenhouse effect How do we know that the Earth is actually getting hotter due to the Greenhouse Effect? At the equator, it is hotter since it is closest to the sun The unequal heating of the earth sets the atmosphere in motion Exchange of the warm and cold air between the equator creates the atmospheric patterns Earth’s atmosphere is driven by the Sun’s heat Nothing in the earth is simple Earth spins rapidly from East to West The irregular spin of the Earth, differing amounts of water and air create the wind patterns. They create the jet streams

16 Forests and trees absorb most of the sun’s energy that falls on them Water warms up and cools off much more slowly than does land Oceans and other large bodies of water store heat from sunlight and release it slowly Many other things affect air temperature and weather conditions Weather Cold fronts move more rapidly When a cold front nears, cold air forms a wedge and pushes the warm air up Clouds form and rain or snow falls How do we know that the Earth is actually getting hotter due to the Greenhouse Effect? The weather of a region changes sharply every time a front and air mass pass over.

17 Pyramids Text Structures Pyramids is also divided into sections and headings that help you as a reader figure out main ideas and supporting details. Usually texts in this format are expository. There are many pictures There are captions attached to pictures
