12 And then there’s the COMPASS Test! COMPASS, a computer-adaptive placement test created by ACT, measures skills in reading, writing, and mathematics. COMPASS helps determine placement in 2-Year and Technical College courses. At many institutions, there is no time limit for the tests. The test is often given on the computer. The computer selects questions for you based on your answers to previous questions. NO experience with computers is needed.

13 Which schools require the COMPASS Test? Georgia Highlands West Georgia Technical College Westwood College North Georgia Technical College Atlanta Metropolitan College Atlanta Area Tech Chattahoochee Tech Please check with Admissions Counselors at your school of interest!

14 How can I Pass the COMPASS? Preparing for COMPASS will help you find success. COMPASS is NOT a pass-fail test. It is a college placement test. You cannot fail. The test is simply designed to help you and the college determine whether you are ready to immediately start the program you have chosen or need some additional preparation first. The three COMPASS placement measures (Mathematics, Reading, and Writing) are designed to assist schools in placing students into appropriate courses. There are potentially six possible placement scores -- one each in writing and reading and up to four in mathematics

15 FINAL THOUGHTS…. The College Board says that the best preparation for College Admissions Testing is rigor in the classroom. In order to prepare for these high-stakes tests, a student must pledge to challenge oneself to be the best student he/she can be. There is no true formula to “acing” the test. Admissions Counselors want to know that YOU have applied yourself through high school and that YOU can continue to grow through YOUR experience at the school that best fits you!
