5 Federal Perkins Grant Restructuring Goals What needed to be done to expedite “final approval” and get $$ to the schools more quickly How to make sure all the funds were spent and not returned How to reduce supplemental required documentation

6 Federal Perkins Application Changes Needed to Address the Goals Provide better training both internally and externally to reduce the review process 15-month Projects: 7/1-9/30 Integration of reporting requirements into the application

7 FY14 Federal Perkins Application includes the following: Assurances Perkins Requirements Coherent Sequence Assurance Monitoring – Programmatic Monitoring - Fiscal Objectives Budget pages

8 Objectives-11 included in application 1 objective for each of 8 performance measures ▫ (1S1, 1S2, 2S1, 3S1, 4S1, 5S1, 6S1 and 6S2) 1 objective addressing Program of Study 1 objective addressing CTSOs 1 objective addressing Workplace Employability Skills

9 Coherent Sequence Update Previous year’s 40 th and 100 th day enrollment populates the upcoming coherent sequence LEA edits, adds and deletes courses as needed Coherent sequence is how the LEA notifies ADE a new program is being offered Arizona has 71 program offerings with coherent sequences of instruction

11 Choose a Program Description—the options are now programs. Programs are listed alphabetically.

12 Then choose a course description. *Only those courses which are part of the approved program sequence will appear in the drop down box.

15 External Training April/May-7 all day trainings around the state Morning: provide resources and activities Afternoon: Computer hands-on workshop with GPS assisting Goal: LEA is prepared to submit application by 6/15 deadline. Additional trainings throughout the year

16 Reports within the Grants System Narratives ▫ Mid-year due as amendment on 3/31 ▫ Final due as an amendment on 9/1 More “user-friendly” Easily respond to progress on each objective

17 How the Process will Work? LEA submits no later than 6/15 GPS will review for “substantial approval” by July 1 allowing the LEA to obligate funds beginning on that date GPS and LEA will continue the process until all the objectives and expenditures support each other and meet the intent of Perkins All Federal Perkins grants will have final approval by 10/1.
