2. Teachings of Prophet Muhammad pbuh and Migration to Medina Prophet Muhammad preached: Allah is one. Do NOT worship anyone besides Allah. All are equal, whether rich or poor,white or black. The rich should help the poor. People should be good and truthful, be honest and not to cheat each other. Idol-worshippers of Mecca did not like what the Prophet (pbuh) was saying. (They wanted to keep worshipping idols and do what they were doing.)

3. In the year 622 A.D., the hatred of people of Makkah against Muhammad and his followers became very strong and their treatment towards Muslims became very brutal. Muhammad had received a number of threats against his life. In order to protect both himself and his people, Muhammad sent his followers, to the town of Yathrib (Medina). Muhammad himself traveled to Yathrib (Medina) secretly with Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddiq ra.

4. They left Makkah, and went to a cave called “Thaur” in the south of Makkah. They reached the cave and entered it while it was still dark. According to tradition, a spider had spun its web across the entrance to the cave, and a bird had laid eggs at it. The Meccans who followed them thought that no one was inside the cave since the web and the eggs would be broken if anyone had entered it. Thus they gave up the hunt and returned to Makkah. This is how Allah swt protected His beloved Prophet and his friend.

5. The emigration of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) from Makkah to Medina is called Hijrah. Hijrah means ‘Great Emigration.’ The year that the Hijrah took place marks the first year of the Islamic calendar.
