2 The Transition from Regional Activities to Member and Geographic Activities M G A was born on 01/01/08

3 RA  >>>> MGA - Why Change? Over the past several years we have lost the focus on the member – no one to blame, it just happened If you always do what you always did you will always get what you always got Our world is changing and we must change with it to properly serve the members of the future

4 RA  >>>> MGA - A Change of Focus Regional Activities Primary Focus Geographic Units Operation to Serve the Volunteer, Member, Students, Profession, Public Member and Geographic Activities Primary Focus Help the member grow and develop for themselves, for the Institute and to serve the common good throughout their life cycle and their various roles. The Geographic Unit is one of the primary means to these ends.

5 Current Transition Status The MGA Board is in place and engaged The MGA Vice Chairs have been elected and are engaged New committees have been formed and committee members are in place Required processes are being developed Tools for use at the Section level are being designed and tested A lot of additional work is still required

9 Focus on the Member - continuous engagement throughout the lifecycle –Develop an IEEE-wide Member Strategy –Member data acquisition, management and protection; relevant products/services and coordinated communications Geographic Unit Experience – efforts already initiated to engage Sections and Regions –Engagement & relationship development for volunteer leaders –Increase opportunities for new activities & programs Geographic Unit Operations –Simplify operational requirements for volunteers and staff –Understand impact of government and legal requirements on OU and Geo Unit decisions and operations –Need for closer integration of GeoUnit operations with IEEE organizational decisions; increasing overlaps of OU efforts world- wide Developing and acquiring skills –Relationship development & management, project management, process management, business analysis and development, enhanced international experience, metrics/benchmarking IEEE MGA – Strategic Considerations

10 Leadership – Can the local Section be the conduit through which we deliver leadership training to the members? –Members utilize the acquired skills to better serve the profession, their community, their employer and their family. –Leadership training for all members to support professional growth. Section Meetings – Can we change the effectiveness of Section meetings? –Perform environmental scan to identify needs, requirements, capabilities, and resources of the Section. Document the gaps. –Develop operational plan in accordance with the environmental scan to satisfy the gaps. –Create a Home for the member. Workshops – Can we enhance the member experience by presenting workshops on various topics? –Use data from environmental scan. –Present workshops to meet the needs of the member relative to technical or professional development. Conference Sponsorship – Is the Section willing to become engaged? –Develop relationships with Societies to cosponsor conferences. –Identify areas of interest and seek conferences that meet this need.
