3. PRIMARY COURSE OBJECTIVES To improve reading skills & literature appreciation To improve writing skills through the writing workshop process To develop public speaking skills To facilitate independent learning

4. SECONDARY COURSE OBJECTIVES Improve note-taking & study skills Develop test-taking strategies Identify & use one’s own learning style to enhance learning Become collaborative & independent learners

5. STUDENT EXPECTATIONS Arrive prepared for class. Complete assignments on time (in class & home, if needed). Be responsible for make-up work. Read nightly for at least 20 minutes. Ask questions/self-advocate. Respect self & others.

Clarity Overview Formative Assessments Calculated for quarter grade Grades based on the LCPS 10- point grading scale No extra credit allowed Students will be retaught and retested if they score below 70%. Summative Assessments Homework, checkpoints, and exit tickets Scores show a range of 1-4 Score of 4 means- I get this! Score of 3 means- proficient Score of 2 means- almost there Score of 1 means- I don’t get this.
