Universal Design for Learning CAST, an educational research and development group, and the National Center on Accessing the Curriculum (NCAC) at CAST have worked to develop the concept of Universal Design for Learning (UDL). Individual learner differences are considered from the start in the instructional process, and instruction, materials, and tools are made accessible for all students..

Universal Design for Learning (UDL): Definition and Component Parts Universal Design for Learning: is a set of principles for curriculum development that give all individuals equal opportunities to learn. UDL provides a blueprint for creating instructional goals, methods, materials, and assessments that work for everyone--not a single, one-size fits-all solution but rather flexible approaches that can be customized and adjusted for individual needs.

Multi-Sensory Access Use of programs such as Kurzweil (3000), an eReader program, Dragon Naturally Speaking, a text-to-speech program, and even the Reviewing Toolbar of Microsoft Word, provide students with multi-sensory access. (auditory, visual and kinesthetic) “Students preferences and proclivities for certain media and tools can play an important role in deepening their engagement and enhancing their success.” (Rose and Meyer, 2002)
