What’s the difference between weather and climate? What happens when it rains cats and dogs? Source: weatherwizkids.com You can’t weather a tree, but you can climate. You have to be careful not to step in a poodle

Is there a difference between “weather” and “climate”? Yes!!! STUDY JAMS WEATHER/CLIMATE VIDEO

Climate is a long term average of what an area is like.

Biomes are often identified by their climate.

Weather is a short term measurement. It describes the condition of the air at a particular time and place. Weather also tells how the air moves (wind) and describes anything it might be carrying such as rain, snow or clouds.

Thunder, lightning, rainbows, haze and other special events are all part of weather.

We choose our day-to-day activities based on the weather.

How do you measure wind speed? Anemometer

How do you measure wind direction? weather/wind vane

How do you measure the amount of rain fall? rain gauge

How do you measure temperature? thermometer

How do you measure atmospheric pressure? barometer

Is cold air more or less dense than warm air? More!!! Why? The molecules are packed closer together.

Weather can be viewed and described using a weather map with weather symbols

Weather Map Symbols warm front The boundary between two air masses, one cool and the other warm, moving so that the warmer air replaces the cooler air. cold front A boundary between two air masses, one cold and the other warm, moving so that the colder air replaces the warmer air.

low pressure A whirling mass of warm, moist air that generally brings stormy weather with strong winds. When viewed from above, winds spiral into a low-pressure center in a counterclockwise rotation in the Northern Hemisphere. high pressure A whirling mass of cool, dry air that generally brings fair weather and light winds. When viewed from above, winds spiral out of a high- pressure center in a clockwise rotation in the Northern Hemisphere. These bring sunny skies.
