4 Involving Staff What do you think are the reasons that staff don’t want to get involved? Confidence? Time? Workload? Sometimes the only way to know is to ask people.

5 Involving Staff What can you do to get staff interested in activities? Find out what their hobbies/interests/ideas are Ask them to lead an (easy) activity “Market” the activity to staff. Include regular updates in staff meetings / handovers.

15 “How do we get people motivated?” What can help you to understand what the person needs? Life History Assessment of social/spiritual needs Talking to them or observing their reactions.

Be clear and consistent with the activities you offer Keep trying (choice vs best interests) Understand what they are interested in Deliver activities that people want to do Every person is different, so there is no one simple answer to this question

17 “How do we get people motivated?” Where possible, give people the opportunity to be involved in choosing, planning, delivering and reviewing activities. You are not alone – care staff / relatives should be able to support you with this. What can you do to engage people with activities?
