Fitness Assessment 1

What is fitness testing? Standardised tests of aspects of fitness

Why is it important? Clinical Classify disease risk Identify contraindications Identify baseline levels of fitness Use data to set program and Identify goals Educational?

Where is it used?

AFL Fitness testing Protocols Fitness Endurance- beep test and 3 kilometre run. Vertical Jump - vertical jump test Speed- 20 Metre sprint with a split times for the first 5 and 10 meters. Repeat Speed - an anaerobic sprint test- 6 x 30m run with a 20- second break each time. Agility- A specific agility test has been developed for AFL Flexibility- sit and reach test Physical Height, Weight, Hand Span, Arm Length Skinfolds- http://www.topendsports.com/sport/afl/testing.htm Psychomotor Decision Making Reaction Time Peripheral Awareness

Aspects of Fitness Muscular Strength Muscular Power Muscular Endurance Aerobic Power/ Vo2 Max Agility Flexibility

Types of tests for Vo2 max Direct/clinical- open circuit spirometry Sub maximal- beep test, step test, cycle erg Field tests- Cooper 12 minute run, Rockport walking test

Order of testing Why is order important? That is why we will be doing testing in order that it is presenting in the lab manual When choosing which station to go to next, try to make it one that uses different energy system/ muscle groups Use rest time  help others

Testing today Important that you try your best Adhere to testing procedure Results Develop training program Use as baseline data in future labs Evaluation of program at post test

Plan for today - RHR, MHR, BP - Step test- separate for males and females -Warm up -Stations -Beep test - Cool down -Questions

Testing Round 1: RHR, MHR, BP -Stay seated and still -Be patient -Take turns -Once finished all 3, go to hall Blood Pressure Measurement -Remove clothing on left arm -Place arm on table at 90 degree angle, supine -Place cuff just (3cm) above elbow -Ensure that switch is in right direction -Start pumping to inflate cuff -Listen for long beep -Stop pumping -Cuff will deflate, and show 2 readings along the way -Will show final systolic/diastolic readings
