NSTX Contributions to ITPA L- and H-mode Global Databases S. M. Kaye 30 July 2003

Initial contributions based on analysis using iz.dat CHERS data –Since then, additional atomic physics corrections, n c profiles –Contributions will be updated based on newest analysis Data contributions include detailed global shot info at toi –Most notably fast ion energy, losses Determination of t th (TRANSP analysis) –Data include info from waveforms, MPTS, CHERS, EFIT(01), TRANSP –Time smoothing over 15 msec –Z eff from waveforms, or =1.5 (flat profile) Initial contribution limited to 15 discharges –8-L, 7-H –H-mode criterion: discharge exhibits sudden decrease in D  not associated with geometry changes, MHD, etc.

Initial set of shots chosen by following criteria –“Good” agreement between magnetics and kinetics stored energy (10-SS/IO, 5-Outside mappings) –H-modes in “steady-state” –Transient discharges included in set of L-modes  th generally good to within about 30% –Depends on when smoothing is done (before or after  th calculated) –Will be showing “high” numbers (smoothing after  th calculated) Contributions will be updated with results from more comprehensive analysis with latest CHERS data

Transient L-mode

Steady H-mode

All 25 TRANSP Runs

Subset of contributed data Agreement with EFIT01 better than with EFIT02

Fast ion stored energy ~20 to 35% Fast ion loss ~ 5 to 20%

Plans Reprocess data with new CHERS input –First run-through already done –Study differences from different mappings –Compile updated global information –Add shots (from 25 already done) Identify additional discharges for TRANSP analysis –Special attention to I p, B T, P NBI, etc. “scans” in both L- and H Examine local transport properties –Subject of future discussion
