© Healthcare Simulation South Carolina healthcaresimulationsc.com Introduction University of South Carolina - Beaufort USCB, serving up to 3,000 students, was accredited 9 years ago as a Level II baccalaureate degree-granting university. Historic Beaufort Campus. Hilton Head Gateway Campus. The pre-licensure BSN program was first offered in 2009, prompting low and medium fidelity in a large laboratory room Low fidelity includes 4 adult static manikins for skill development Medium fidelity occurs for skill development and competency with Vita Sim manikins in 4 Vita Sim adult, 1 Vita Sim child, and 1 Vita Sim baby. High fidelity occurs in two simulation rooms, 1 Sim Man 1 Sim Essentials. These two high fidelity simulations are separated by a central control station.

© Healthcare Simulation South Carolina healthcaresimulationsc.com Currently all nursing courses are involved with low to medium fidelity simulation or high fidelity simulation for student learning. High fidelity simulation occurs based on the comfort level of nursing faculty and their ability to use technology. Currently faculty high fidelity simulation usage is low with only 1 of 8 faculty actually involved in high fidelity case simulations serving from 75 to 105 nursing students in the The Professional Nursing course BNUR 202; Adult Health I, BNUR 326; and Adult Health II, BNUR 426. Introduction (con’t)

© Healthcare Simulation South Carolina healthcaresimulationsc.com Introduction (con’t) Simulation Center Staff – Mary Ann Jarmulowicz PhD, Assistant Professor and part-time simulation coordinator – Gary Molloy, IT specialist who works part-time and assists with technology needs of faculty. Mission: – The mission of simulation follows the mission of the university. Respond to regional needs, draw upon regional strengths, and prepare graduates to participate successfully in communities here and around the globe. Its curriculum is designed to promote acquisition of knowledge and, through it, the intellectual dispositions and skills that encourage depth of understanding, tolerance of others and individual accountability.

© Healthcare Simulation South Carolina healthcaresimulationsc.com A goal for the 2013-2014 academic year is to increase faculty comfort and fully map low, medium, and high fidelity throughout the curriculum. Introduction

© Healthcare Simulation South Carolina healthcaresimulationsc.com Top 5 Key Accomplishments 1.Two high fidelity (Sim Man and Sim Essentials), and four adult, one child and one infant Vita Sim manikins, a part-time simulation coordinator and a part-time technology specialist. 2.USCB joined the HCSSC collaborative. 3.Sim Essentials increase to two high fidelity teaching rooms. 4.Assigned part-time faculty simulation coordinator with academic loading along with a dedicated part-time IT manager. 5.Sim Pads converted low fidelity Vita Sim manikins to medium fidelity manikins

© Healthcare Simulation South Carolina healthcaresimulationsc.com Major Goals for Upcoming Year Plan achievement of learning objectives and student outcomes through the use of high fidelity simulation throughout the nursing curriculum. Gain 50% faculty support for high and medium fidelity simulation as a excellent teaching and learning tool for students. Transform the two high fidelity simulation rooms that share audio and video capability to two independent functioning units that can be utilized simultaneously.
