2 Texture is how the surface of something feels. This may be actual or illusionary. In drawing and painting artists often try to create the illusion, on a flat surface (paper, canvas, or board), of how something looks or feels. What are the things an artist must look for in order to create the illusion of a surface’s texture?

5 In order to figure out how to create a texture, one must first understand that it is value that creates the texture. When looking at a surface, there are 2 things that one should look for regarding its value. 1. What are the particular patterns of value? 2. How does the value change?
