2 Our hypothesis: The new rectangular stadium is a waste of taxpayer’s money.

3 Background information The 6 major stadiums that we are focusing on are: the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) the Etihad Stadium (Telstra Dome) The Hisense Arena (Vodafone Arena) the Rod Laver Arena Olympic Park AAMI Park We shall enlighten you about all 6 before we continue.

4 Melbourne Cricket Ground -The MCG can be located at Yarra Park. -It was opened in 1854, so this year is it’s 56 th birthday!! -It holds approximately 100,000 people, including the standing space. -Cost AU$142 million for the Great Southern Stand and AU$434 million for the current Ponsford/MCC/Olympic Stands. -One of the seven wonders of the sporting world.

5 -Found at Harbour Esplanade, Docklands. -Opened year 2000. -Had a construction cost of AU$460 million. - It has a seating capacity of 53,359, and venue capacity of 56,347. -Headquarters of Seven Network’s broadcast centre. Etihad Stadium

6 Hisense Arena -Located at Melbourne Park. -Opened year 2000. -Construction cost of AU$65 million. -Capacity to hold 10,500. -The roof is retractable, making it one of the few venues where tennis can be played while it is raining.

7 Rod Laver Arena -Located at Melbourne Park. -Opened year 1988. -Construction cost of AU$94 million. -Holds up to 16,820 people. -Kylie Minogue has played 20 concerts at the arena, Pink has played 24 concerts at the arena, Britney Spears performed 4 shows at the arena, and last month, Lady GaGa performed in the arena.

8 Olympic Park -Can be found at Olympic Boulevard. -Was opened year 1956. -Capacity to hold 18,500 people. -The new Rectangular Stadium is build adjacent to it. -It’s nicknamed “The Graveyard” by Melbourne Storm, because of their excellent record at this stadium.

9 AAMI Park The new stadium under construction. -Melbourne’s latest addition of stadiums. -Location: Olympic Boulevard. -Surface: Grass. -Construction cost: AU $268 Million. -seating capacity: 31,500. What AAMI Park stadium will look like.

10 Our Survey Sheet This sheet was what we brought around the city to use to survey people. We started off slow, but slowly got much faster as we shook off the memory of our first rejections. Altogether, we surveyed over 100 people.
