4. 1.0Introduction An organization is a social unit of people that is structured and managed to meet a need or to pursue collective goal. A social system is a series of interrelationship existing between individual groups and institutions and form a coherent whole (group) A work system is a system which human participants and machines perform work (processes and activities) using information, technology and other resources to produce products/services for internal or external customers

7. 3.0 History of women’s entry into the formal work setting Women’s entry work entry dates back to Kenya after independence when a number of women gained access to white collar jobs. However, these were lower cadre jobs such office assistants, secretaries switch board operators. Over the years the number of women in leadership jobs increased as a result education explosion. An example of this is the many women professors in academic field, eg the late prof. Wangari Maathai and prof. Leah Marangu among many others 7
