1 Adding an ODBC source ODBC is Windows’ way of talking to a database Start->Settings-> Control Panel-> ODBC Data Sources Do not try this until I send you mail

2 Map a network drive Interdev won’t work right without this The share to connect to is \\iinetsrv\fall99 Individual project spaces are at \\iinetsrv\fall99\cse444\[interdev space name] Check reconnect at login

3 Starting with Interdev One person needs to create a new project Choose Visual Interdev Porjects -> New Web Project Make it at the top level of your project!

4 More project creation choices Name your project with a good identifier Choose “Master Mode” Don’t try to use any themes Will not work in any lab other than 232 until further moment

5 Add a data connection Right click on project Choose “Add Data Connection”

6 Choosing data source Choose “Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers Don’t mess with any of the advanced stuff

7 Data link properties Pick same system DSN you created for the ODBC sources Click ok On properties, under Authentication, Save Design-time Authentication

8 Adding an ASP Page Right click on the project Add new ASP page

9 Adding data Left hand side, got to Toolbox, then Design Time Controls. Drag Recordset into ASP page

10 Adding a Grid Drag a Grid Select properties Click data tab Choose data to add

11 You’re done!! Right click on ASP page View in browser Will only work with Internet Explorer Should be at http://iinetsrv.cs.washington.edu/[project name]/[page name] If something doesn’t work, ask for help
