3 What it does?  Combination of data analysis and student life.  Uses past student records and study habits in order to create a customized lesson plan better suited to the students personal needs  Predicts students performance and intervenes when students are struggling by offering personalized responses and assistance to the students questions  Ideal for use in computer courses (online classes)and classes where computer use is required or incouraged.  Monitors student in real time and provides different resources to the student to encourage learning.  In younger students it could provide study breaks by introducing educational games within lesson plan.

4 When should we expect to see it?  There are some analytical learning programs out in the world already, however due to research, costs, and implementation we should expect to wait 2-3 years for analytical learning to be put into widespread practice.  Mathspace: Online program that records how different students reason through math problems and provides assistance along with reports for teachers.  Kno me: available for the online textbook platform Kno, the Kno me tool gives students insight into their study habits by providing different information (i.e. time spent, notes taken, highlighted sections, frequency of studying, etc.)

5 Unintended Consequences  Evolution of the teachers role. Rather than just educators teachers now play the roles of instructor, facilitator, analyst, and on scene tech support  It’s not cheap and 70-85% of resources in data analytics depend on expensive human effort.  Privacy. The information that analytical learning uses and collects has the potential to be sensitive information about the student, so who gets to access this information.  Classrooms become places where students access their classes rather than an active learning environment.
