1 Cookies 2009 Science Fair

2 Big Question What happens to cookies when you put them in different temputures?

3 purpose My purpose of doing this experiment is to see what happens to cookies when you bake them at different temputures.

4 Hypothesis My hypothesis is that the cookies will bake best at 450 degrees. My reason: because it is so high is has to be perfect or almost cooked fully.

5 Interesting facts about cookies! The first chocolate chip cookie was invented in 1937 by Ruth Graves Wakefield of Whitman, Massachusetts who ran the Toll House restaurant. Each country has its own word for “cookie.”what we know as a cookie are also called “biscuits” in England. 1939- this cookie became known nationally when Betty Crocker used it in her radio series on “Famous Foods From Famous eating places!” 1940- Ruth sold all legal rights to the use of the Toll House trademark to Nestle. Toll House is now a descriptive term for a cookie.

6 Written procedures Materials: –Chocolate chip cookie mix –Oven –Baking sheet –Paper towels Step 1: after making the cookie mix, I will set the temputure to 450 degrees. Then put the cookie dough into balls on a cookie sheet.when the temputure is at450 I will put the cookies in to bake.

7 Step 2 : when the cookies have been in the oven for 11 minutes I will lay out some paper towels to put the cookies on. On my second patch I will set the timer to 350 degrees and do step 1 over again. Step 3 : I will keep doing the process two more times at the temputure 250 and 150 degrees. After all the cookies are baked I will compare them all to see which cookie turned out to be the best-coked cookie!

8 DATA

9 Observations (more data) 175 degrees- the cookie slowly cooked, when they smelled like cookie dough and melted chocolate. They tasted like raw dough, hot, and it melts in your mouth. 250 degrees- the cookies in this oven cooked a little faster and felt like soft, moist, and not fully cooked. tasted hard (crust) and moist (in the middle). 350 degrees- looked golden brown and a little moist (prefect one)and tasted fully cooked and gooey!! 450 degrees- looks, black and burned and feels crispy and hot. Smells like heated charcoal,and taste black and gross!! * each one bake 11 minutes.

10 Conclusion! The cookie that baked the best was the one at 350 degrees. My hypothesis was not correct! 
