2 First things first... Choose your nation! Spain Portugal England France The Netherlands (Dutch) Research your nation. Compile a list of historical facts to use throughout the creation of ALL of your project requirements. **Note: Keep a record of your websites and CITE AS YOU GO!!**

3 What is your subject? You may develop your own theme or use one of the suggested subjects. However, you must have a focus for your zine that you can maintain from beginning to end. Check your requirements to ensure that all of your entries are related to your subject. Subject Ideas: Fashion Sports Current events Food

4 Zine Cover- Your first impression Decide on a name for your zine AND a name for your colony. In addition to your zine and colony names, include the following on your cover: Flag of sponsoring country Cover picture/photo Headlines/attention-getters- What have you included that would make people want to open your zine? Make good use of your space. Does your zine look interesting?

6 Table of Contents The table of contents does not have to be boring! Continue to engage your reader. Include pictures and graphics (CITE!) Make sure your page numbers are accurate!

8 Advertisements What do you want people to do? Have you made this clear? How can you effectively persuade them to do this? Include pictures and/or graphics that relate to your subject

10 Bibliography- EasyBib is your friend! What exactly is a bibliography? Why are you required to include a bibliography in your zine? Remember this? Go to easybib.com. Enter the website address (URL). Go back to the website and look for any missing information (in red). Fill in as much information as you can find. Click on “create citation.” Copy and paste the citation. (ALPHABETICAL ORDER)

12 News Article What's a news article? 250-500 (Use Word Count) You are to write a factual report on an event crucial to the development of your colony (ex. battle with the natives; first trading experience; location of resources). You cannot do this without HISTORICAL FACTS. Research events that occurred in the European nation you have chosen or their colonies. 13 Additional Articles/Sections If you are a group of 3, your zine should include 3 additional articles/sections. If you are a group of 4, your zine should include 4 additional articles/sections. The following slides contain tips for your additional assignments. Only view the slides that pertain to YOUR article/section.

14 Feature Article Writing feature articles often looks at issues and trends while appealing to the human interest of a story. You cannot do this without HISTORICAL FACTS.
