2 OBSERVATION OBSERVATION- – Information collected using your five senses (sight, smell, touch, taste and hear); facts – QUANTITATIVE OBSERVATION Measurable observations; can be expressed using numbers – 3 meters long or 4 marbles – QUALITATIVE OBSERVATION Observations that describe the characteristics of something – Red flowers or tastes bitter

3 INFERENCE INFERENCE- – a logical conclusion based on observations HYPOTHESIS- – an educated guess based on observations, can be tested CONCLUSION- – a summary based on facts

4 Let’s Practice… Using your observation and inference skills- take a look at the following Olympians. 1.Make 2 observations about each of the athlete's appearance. 2.Based on your observations, make an inference as to why these features make him/her a champion athlete.
