2 WHAT IS IT? A large group of inherited disorders that are defined by primary defects in the development of 2 or more tissues, derived from embryonic ectoderm. 3 CAUSES, INCIDENCE Ectodermal dysplasias are caused by altered genes. Ectodermal dysplasias are caused by altered genes. 4 According to the Staff at the National Foundation for Ectodermal Dysplasia, this disease affects 2 per 10.000 births for all forms of ED.

5 80% of persons with ED have a form that affects teeth!!!

8 TREATMENT There is no specific treatment for this disorder WHAT CAN BE DONE? - Wigs - Dentures - Usage of artificial tears

9 EXPECTATIONS, PROGNOSIS IT WILL NOT SHORTEN THE LIFESPAN, BUT CONSTANT ATTENTION TO TEMPERATURE IT WILL NOT SHORTEN THE LIFESPAN, BUT CONSTANT ATTENTION TO TEMPERATURE REGULATION HAS TO BE TAKEN. REGULATION HAS TO BE TAKEN.

10 PREVENTION If you have a family history of Ectodermal Dysplasia and you are planning to have children, genetic counseling is recommended.
