2 Harcourt Trophies Reading/Language Arts Includes: shared literature, guided comprehension, vocabulary, independent reading, grammar, and spelling Multi-level materials Extra support

3 Math We use HM Math program in 5 th (and now 4 th grade). –Focuses on logic and problem-solving, applying math concepts, –Aligned with Common Core Standards. 10-15 minutes to start Math homework in class, but your child –SHOULD have math to do at HOME each night as well –Homework sheet/IXL/Fact practice). All homework –extension of what we did in class that day. We go over our homework at the start of each math class; so it is very important that your student does their homework each night. Students are strongly encouraged to check their work. Thank you for your support at home.

4 Geography Packets done each week Cover map skills that will benefit the students across all content areas. Done in class and turned in on Friday. Graded on Friday and given back. Students have the opportunity to fix any mistakes and return the packet on MONDAY for full credit. Though your student’s teacher may encourage them to fix them every week it is the STUDENT’S responsibility to correct and return them on time.

11 Report cards will be sent home at the end of each quarter. We will use A, B, C,D,F grades. Not all subjects will be graded weekly Specialists send their own report attached to the report card at the end of the grading period. Report Cards

12 JUPITER GRADES As the 5 th and 6 th grade team, we use an online, electronic grading system. Check on your child’s progress as frequently as would like.

13 Snack All TOPS students should bring a snack each day. It is important that we aren’t hungry while we’re working. Please DO NOT send anything but water in water bottles. ALLERGY ALERT - No peanuts or peanut products, Please Food should be dry- Thank you for sending in food that does not need to be eaten with a spoon.

18 Wax Museum Students will: Write a comprehensive report on an assigned individual related to their cottage or specific area designated by the teacher. The report is part of our writing program and a state standard requirement. Prepare a poster Dress in costume Participate in the evening museum event at the end of the third quarter
