Am I just a product of “random selection?” Am I here, living and breathing, for a reason? Is there a higher purpose for my life? Could it really be true that life is a gift from a loving God who created me?

“Meaningless! Meaningless!” says the Teacher. “Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless.” “I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind.” “…I praised the dead who were already dead, More than the living who are still alive. Yet, better than both is he who has never existed…” (NKJV) >> King Solomon—Ecclesiastes 1:2, 14; 4:2-3

The search for purpose and meaning has been going on for thousands of years. “Two factors in particular stand out in Aristotle’s philosophy. One is his view that everything has its own purpose that is part of a larger purpose. His philosophy consists largely of trying to figure out what these purposes are and how they fit together.” Jay Stevenson, The Complete Idiots Guide To Philosophy, Indianapolis, Indiana, 2002, Alpha Books, pg. 59

“When we ask if life has meaning, the first question has to be, to whom? To a witness with the whole of space and time in its view, nothing on a human scale will have meaning… The problem with life is that it has too much meaning” Simon Blackburn, Being God, Oxford University Press, 2001, pgs. 79, 80

1.God has a purpose for every life. >> Psalm 57:2; 138:8; 2 Cor. 5:5

2.You will find your purpose for existence when you acknowledge your Creator. >> Genesis 1:27,28

3.You will find your purpose for existence in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. >> John 10:10; Philippians 3:8

4.You will find your purpose for existence when you passionately follow, live, and breathe the Great Commandment and the Great Commission. >> Matthew 22:36-39

“Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.’ ” Matthew 28:18-20

5.You will find your purpose for existence when your life is spent worshiping and enjoying God. >> Revelation 4:11 The chief end of man is to glorify God BY enjoying him forever. --John Piper

J.P. Moreland, Ph. D. said: “God is the most generous, loving, wonderful, attractive being in the cosmos. He has made us with free will and he has made us for a purpose: to relate lovingly to him and to others. We are not accidents, we’re not modified monkeys, we’re not random mistakes.” Lee Strobel, The Case For Faith, Grand Rapids Michigan, Zondervan Publishing House, 2000, page 173

So what’s the point? Your life is a gift from God—a life full of divine, cosmic purpose. Use it with passion. You exist to fulfill the will of God. Be sure you know it. His will is not hidden. It is wonderfully revealed in detail in the Bible. Until you know God through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ life has no significant meaning. Many who know God have lost their purpose for existence because they no longer seek God with all their heart.
