Principals of Colour Red Orange Yellow Green Blue Indigo Violet Sunlight (white light) is made up of all the colours of the rainbow This can be seen when we shine light through a prism. What are the colours that can be seen in a rainbow?

Red is a primary colour, name another primary colour with a cool tone.

Did you guess blue? What other primary colour is missing?

To create secondary colours, we need to mix together the primary colours. What colour do we get when we mix blue and red together? Did you guess yellow?

Which secondary colour do we get when we mix blue and yellow? Did you know that violet would be produced by mixing red and blue?

What is the missing secondary colour? The correct answer was green!

Using the colour star to subdue unwanted tones. Opposites on the colour star are used to counteract unwanted tones What would you use to subdue yellow? Using a violet toner will subdue hair that is too yellow. Use the colour star to complete the problems on the next slide.

The Colour Star A client’s hair is too khaki matt in tone. What would you use to tone down the hair? We can subdue unwanted colours by using opposites on the colour star. These are called complimentary colours. Blue ash toner would tone down copper. A client’s hair is too copper. What would you use to tone down the copper? Did you work out that a red tint will subdue a khaki matt tone?
