2 Mr. Tatsuya Saito Patent Attorney Founding partner of a Tokyo based patent firm, Inspire Patent and Trademark Attorneys. More than 18 years, he has worked as a patent attorney for patent prosecutions for variety of technical fields as well as design and trademark prosecutions. He is a member of JPAA, AIPPI, APAA and INTA. He has a B.E. in Mechanical Eng., a Master of IP (Franklin Pierce Center) and a Juris Doctor (Concord School of Law) and is qualified as an U.S. Patent Agent (exam passed), a 1st class software engineer and a 3rd class electric chief engineer. He is a author of "Patent Systems in Foreign Countries [Asian Edition]" and "Introduction of U.S. Patent Law". 3 Mr. Yoichiro Yamaguchi Attorney at law Office: Washington DC Phone: (202) 955-8788 EMail: yy@raderfishman.com Practices:Patents, Technology and E-Commerce, Trademarks, Copyrights, Trade Secrets Mr. Yoichiro Yamaguchi began his career examining patent applications as an Examiner in the electrical field and later working as an Appeal Examiner at the Board of Appeals in the Japanese Patent Office. He is an expert in Japanese intellectual property law and has testified at trials as an expert witness. Mr. Yamaguchi had examined numerous patent applications in Japan before coming to the United States. He currently advises and counsels many Japanese companies on patents, trademarks, trade secret matters, copyrights, licensing and infringement matters. Mr. Yamaguchi was a Lecturer on Japanese Patent Law and Policy at the George Washington University National Law Center. He is Research Professor of the University of Tokyo, Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology. He is also teaching Japan-U.S. comparative patent laws for Japanese Patent Office examiners at National Center for Industrial Property Information and Training, and for intellectual property professionals from Asian countries at the Asia-Pacific Industrial Property Center, Japan Institute of Invention and Innovation. He has authored and co-authored over 30 articles on U.S. Intellectual Property Laws and Japanese Patent Laws including “US Intellectual Property Court Document Retrieval Manual,” 1993 (in Japanese), “Crisis to Japanese Patent Attorney System Caused by US Attorney-Client Privilege/Proposal of Changes to the Patent Attorney Law,” 1994 (in Japanese), “Commentary on Revised U.S. Patent Law and Rules,” Japan Machinery Center for Trade and Investment, 2001 (in Japanese). Co-Author: “Official Commentary of Industrial Property Laws” 1986 (in Japanese), “Discovery and Strategy,” 1994 (in Japanese). Mr. Yamaguchi holds an LL.B. (1974) from the School of Law of Waseda University (Japan), and an LL.M. (1992) from George Washington University. He was admitted in the Japanese Courts as a Patent Counsel and was registered to practice before the Japanese Patent Office. 6 Mr. Yoshiaki Tokuda Patent Attorney (Japan) Since 2013, Yoshiaki Tokuda has been leading worldwide IP strategy in Panasonic group as General Manager of Strategy Department in Intellectual Property Center of Panasonic Corporation, by leveraging his practical expertise and extensive business experience. In 1989, he started his business career in Panasonic headquarters and experienced wide range of IP activities including patent prosecution, licensing, litigation etc. Since 1997, he built 16th year of his career in a business division handling mobile communication business. In this business field, IP has been one of the most significant issues, and he contributed to the business through IP related negotiation and contract with worldwide competitors. Especially since 2003, he had deeply committed himself to the business as a director of IP section in this business division. He also gains professional experience outside of Panasonic group. In 1990, he was temporary assigned to the Institute of Intellectual Property, which was a non-profit institution founded by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Japanese Patent Office, and conducted research for IP system in the US and Europe for two years. In addition, from 1995 to 1997, he engaged in a training program at a law firm in New York, supporting litigations and disputes. Key Words: How can we leverage IP for maximum result in business? 7 Nobuaki Kimura Japanese Patent attorney (“Benrishi”) with long experience of international IP management. Experiences includes first-hand patent pool practices in SISVEL who is the worldwide licensing administrator, and leading role of cross-border IP licensing and litigation of a R&D company. Current practices focuses on IP management consulting, the procurement and dispute of patent, and IP transaction as outside counsel. 8 Mr. Hisao Yamasaki Syndefense Corp CEO Hisao Yamasaki is the founder and managing director of Syndefense. Before founding the company, Mr Yamasaki served as the president of RPX Asia, a leading provider of patent risk management solutions. Previously, Mr Yamasaki had a 25-year career at Hitachi, Ltd as general manager of IP business development and licensing, where he directed business aspects of the electronics conglomerate’s IP assets, including licensing strategies and operations, and patent portfolio balancing transactions. He holds several law degrees and served as a professor at the Graduate School of Intellectual Property at the Osaka Institute of Technology.
