4. RESEARCH We learned that: Creating video is a creative and technical experience. Producing a video makes you very knowledgeable on the subject of the video, and can be a powerful education tool. There is a lot of information about making videos, but it is complex and complicated for middle schoolers to understand; The information is spread out, and not all in one place.

6. SOLUTION Our solution is: We created a Method for Middle-Schoolers to use to create original Videos. We simplified the information for Middle- Schoolers to understand. We brought all the information together in one place.

13. “Planning is the most important thing. Lots of videographers go out there and just start shooting. If you don't plan, you're just wasting precious time and film. Don't do anything without planning.” Ben Blevins of Brick Street Cinema Think in shots; Don't keep the camera on all the time. At most events, it will be known what will be the main points to happen, so think in the separate elemental events, list them, and be ready. Then: Point. Shoot. Stop. Make a shot list of ­the list of the shots/pieces of the video. Step 1 – Planning - Overview

14. 1 ST STEP: PLAN Write your story and script. You can also research the subject you will be filming about. Planning is very important because when you plan everything goes more smoothly. Where will you shoot your movie? Who will be in it? What is your story? Where will you get equipment? This all fits into the planning process. Never even touch your camera until you have every last detail planned.

15. HOW TO MAKE A VIDEO Focus on what Really Interests You. Your Passion is what draws people and fuels the production.

16. 1 ST STEP: PLAN (CON’T) PART OF PLANNING IS THE STORY. HERE ARE THE IMPORTANT ELEMENTS OF A STORY: Characters Plot Setting Conflict Resolution Action- Make a Storyboard­-a group of pictures of what will be in your video.

17. 2 ND STEP: PRACTICE So, you have all your details planned, all your actors picked, and have permission to film at all your locations, so it is time to practice! Practice using a camera, practice your lines and practice in your costume. Remember to practice everything like it’s going to be when your actually filming, because how you practice your lines, is how you will perform it on camera.

18. 3 RD STEP: RECORD Get all your cameras, costumes and props out, because its time to record!! Make sure everyone is going to be on their best behavior! Stage Etiquette – never turn your back to the audience; don't distract from the main action; Keep your shots under 10 seconds. Focus on what Really Interests You. Don't use the camera zoom features; Move closer in yourself, using your legs to go up or down, not your arms as you hold the camera still. Lighting – should come from behind you, the videographer.

19. 3 RD STEP - RECORD Pick the Super Shot; Shoot an image that is the most important in your video and really grabs people's attention. Special effects only used in editing; record the natural event. Use an external microphone, so the internal one won't pick up all the ambient noise.

20. 4 TH STEP: REVIEW Review what you filmed. Find your mistakes so that you can fix them while you are editing. Keep your video short. Use simple, not amateurish, titles. Use simple font that contrasts with the background. Don't use fades, dissolves, or sliding one shot into the other; Use cuts more than anything-switching from one shot to the next, and cutting out shots if in doubt.

21. 5 TH STEP: EDIT The nice thing about editing is that you can very easily fix any mistakes you made while filming. For beginners, we recommend windows movie maker or imovie by apple.
