1 Nursery Autumn Term 2015 Language, Literacy and Communication We will be developing the children’s speaking and listening skills through a range of activities including stories, rhymes and discussions. The language of books will be developed talking about author, illustrator, pages, the difference between pictures and print. Begin to develop strategies for reading where to start reading on the pages and the direction in which we read. The children will be encouraged to read their names on their name cards. Personal and Social Development and Well Being The children will be introduced to School Rules and and the traffic light system to help them understand the need for appropriate behaviour when in nursery. We will also talk about our feelings when people do and do not behave kindly towards us. Mathematical Development The children will daily recite numbers forward and backward. Counting collections of objects. Develop recognition of numerals and their position and develop number patterns to 5. The language of height, length, size and weight will be introduced as will the naming of 2D shapes. Knowledge and understanding of the World The children will be given the opportunity to explore the inside and outside areas and become familiar with the names of the different areas and the activities that take place in them. They will also look at and discuss the season of Autumn and be introduced to Forest School. Creative Development The children will be given the opportunity to explore and experiment with a variety of materials during structured activities and free play activities. The percussion instruments will be introduced and children given the opportunity to explore the sounds. Physical Development The children will be helped to develop their gross motor skills and coordination through PE activities indoor and outdoor. Their fine motor and manipulative skills will be developed through daily activities such as puzzles, threading beads, etc Welsh Language Development The children will be introduced to the Welsh language through our Welsh puppets Doli, Bwni, Tedi,Ffich and Ffach. The children will learn the phrases to greet, ask who they are as well as hear incidental language throughout the session We will be encouraging the children to use the toilet independently, as well as discussing the need to wash our hands and eat a healthy diet. Our daily snack will be a social time for sharing our food and discussing the days events.

2 Nursery Ways you can help Language, Literacy and Communication Read a variety of stories naming the author, illustrator, talk about the front cover being different from the pages. Point to the words as you read the story and asking the children to point to the start of the writing. Talk about the stories that are read and the sequence of events and the characters. Sing nursery rhymes and songs Mathematical Development Recite numbers 1to 10 and upwards both forwards and backwards. Count objects with child touching each object as they count it. Talk about the size of objects big and small. Talk about the length of objects long and short. Knowledge and Understanding of the World Look at and talk about the trees and weather changing as we go into Autumn and the type of clothes we need to wear. Creative Development Give the children the opportunity to cut, stick with a variety of materials. Sing songs and rhymes. Welsh Language Development Talk to the children about the words they are learning Physical Development Help the children develop their gross motor skills through plenty of outside play. Help the children develop their fine motor skills through puzzles, drawing, building etc. Personal and Social Development, Well-being and Cultural Development Talk about the need to wash our hands. Show your child how to put on their own coats and shoes.
