1 Physical Development To experiment with different ways of moving. To move with control and co-ordination, showing an awareness of space and others around them. To use increasing control over an object such as a ball by touching, pushing, patting, throwing, catching or kicking it. To handle tools, objects, construction and malleable materials safely and with increasing control. Mathematical Development To begin counting beyond 10. To estimate how many objects they can see and check by counting them. To recognise numerals to 10 and write them correctly to 5. To find a number one more or one fewer than a given number to 10. To begin to use mathematical names for 2D and 3D shapes. To order 3 objects by size, length and weight. To use language such as greater, smaller, heavier or lighter to compare quantities. To talk about, recognise and recreate simple patterns. To solve problems involving capacity. Communities To begin to know about their own cultures and beliefs and those of other people through exploring Diwali, Hanukah and Christmas. Exploring and investigating To explore forces by investigating rolling objects. To explore forces by investigating blowing. To explore structures by building walls and using a range of construction kits and materials. To explore light by investigating different light sources. ICT To complete a simple program on the computer. To use the mouse and keyboard when using a program. Communication, language and literacy To recognise Phase 2 letters, know their names and sounds, and to hear and say those sounds in words. To use a pencil and hold it effectively to correctly form those letters. To listen with enjoyment and respond to traditional tales and nursery rhymes. To retell narratives in the correct sequence drawing on the language patterns of stories. To begin to read a few common “key” words. To write for different purposes, such as Christmas lists and cards. Creative Development. To work with clay, making Diva lamps for Diwali. To print using a range of objects, materials and techniques. To paint portraits of characters. Time To find out about Guy Fawkes and Bonfire Night. Personal Social and Emotional Development To understand their feelings and express them appropriately. To take turns with others. To make and keep friendships by learning to resolve conflicts amicably. To work in a group with other children. To ask for help when they are stuck. Wren and Chaffinch Class Autumn 2 Over the Hills and Far Away… ….Is a magical land full of nursery rhyme and traditional tale characters. As they meet each one the children are given a clue that will lead them to an amazing and magical event…. The children will be learning….. Designing and Making To investigate the best materials for making a water carrier for Jack and Jill. To explore the different fixing materials, (glue, sellotape, etc) and find the best one to fix Humpty Dumpty together again. To make porridge for the Three Bears. To make puppets for storytelling. To make Christmas cards and crafts
