1 Are you currently a grade 10 student planning to take Chemistry 20 and Physics 20 next year? If so, why not consider taking these two credits together in an alternative format?

2 What are the advantages  Larger time blocks for more labs and extended lab activities – periods 1&2, 2&3 or 4&5 depending on scheduling  Integration & merging of content and concepts with less overlap  Opportunities for field trips, speakers, and interesting projects  Potential partnerships or activities with real scientists  Block learning – Learn one complete concept at a time. We may focus on Physics for one week, Chemistry the next.  Work with a group of students with the same interests as you

3 More advantages  Fewer small assignments with more authentic, integrated (Chemistry and Physics) and hands on assignments  Better coordination of examinations and other assessments.  You won’t write a chemistry and a physics exam on the same day or even on back to back days!  Due dates of assignments will have less overlap between chemistry and physics.  Themed activities – next year’s theme: Alternative Fuel/Energy Technologies  Get your hands on zero emission hydrogen fuel cell technology!

7 Who is this for?  Students who will have completed Math 20 before semester 2 of next year  Students who have a strong math and science background  Students who are capable of independent work and who have a high level of literacy (reading and writing).  Students who are interested in alternative fuel/energy technologies and science  Students who want to try learning in a different format

9 Frequently Asked Questions…  How many credits do I get? 2 credits – one in Physics 20 and one in Chem 20  Will I get the same mark in both? No, not necessarily, some assignments and projects will be integrated and some will not.  If I struggle will I fail two credits? Not necessarily. You may do better in one of the subjects than the other.  Will this class be harder than taking these subjects separately? That is not the intent. It is NOT an AP or Advanced Placement class. It is designed to give you more hands on time with the science concepts which should allow you to better achieve
