3  Tuesdays and Wednesdays  Kits- pumps, blue t-shirt, black shorts  Remove earrings for P.E. days/ bring plasters in-but children must do this themselves  All P.E. kit items need to be clearly named!  Kit usually stays in school and is sent home every half term

4  In Year 2 reading books are changed Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.  Your child changes their own book and chooses from a selection they want to read from the level they are on.  Children/adults are responsible for writing the title of the book and the date before they write a comment.  Sometimes your child may take a book that they have already read before- this is ok!

5  We all use the cursive style at High Street  Daily handwriting sessions  Joining  We encourage the children to use this style in their independent writing.  Formation strips will be sent home by the end of this week.

6 Letters and Sounds- Daily for 20 minutes  Letter sounds, word building, spelling strategies, sentence construction and reading Homework  Spellings from the Letters and Sounds Programme  Literacy and Numeracy homework (from previous learning)  Science homework every other week by Mrs Brook and Mr Bratt as they will be teaching this subject area during PPA Basic Skills- Daily 20 minutes Rotating activities:  Group 1- Guided Read/Independent read (teacher)  Group 2- Additional Handwriting Activities  Group 3- Role-play, Writing Table, reading for pleasure  Group 4- Phonic/Spelling Games  Group 5 –Comprehension activities

7  10 th -12 th February 2016  Two nights  Costs kept to a minimum  Last year’s cost was approximately £70  Children always enjoy the trip  Promotes social skills, independence, interpersonal skills, communication skills, based on Victorian topic. More information about this nearer the time.

8  Wednesday 21 st October (4.30-7pm) and Thursday 22 nd October (3.30-5.30pm)  Spring term  Reports handed out in Summer term  Parent’s evening will be split 3 ways between Mrs Coleman, Mrs Bullen and Mrs Ferguson.

9  Golden Rules  Positive praise  Peg system  Golden Time  ‘Time out’  ‘Reflection’

10  Reading every night- ok to read the book more than once.  Literacy and Numeracy most weeks- handed out Monday and in by Thursday.  Spellings every other week on Fridays. Children will feedback outcome.

11  After summer half term (usually 1 st /2 nd week of June)  We don’t tell the children that they are doing SATs- try to keep it as relaxed as possible  The format is new as of this academic year, but we will keep you up to date with any new developments.
