3 Today we are going to learn about all the layers of the rainforest and the animals that live in these layers too! Click the arrow to go on to the next page.

12 - Highest level of the rainforest - Only the tallest trees reach this level, they can grow up to 200 feet tall - Since it is so high up, there is lots of sunlight for the trees - These trees do not grow closely together, they have lots of room to spread out

17 - 2 nd level of the rainforest - These trees can grow from 100-150 feet tall - The canopy layer acts like an umbrella it stops sunlight and rain from reaching the lower levels - This is the most diverse layerdiverse

22 - 3 rd layer of the rainforest - This layer is dark and humid - There are lots of vines and vegetationvegetation at this level - There is not very much light at this level - Plants in this layer are usually under 12 feet tall

29 - Bottom layer of the rainforest - This layer only gets 1-2% of the sunlight that the upper layer gets - There is very little plant life this far down - It is full of dead leaves and plants - The rainforest floor is very humid

34 Did you know…. Rainforests are found on every continent except Antarctica There are 30 million species of plants and animals living in the tropical rainforest

35 Did you know…. The trees are so densely packed, rain can take 10 minutes to reach the ground An area of a rainforest the size of a football field is being destroyed each second

36 Did you know…. More than 20% of the world’s oxygen is produced in the Amazon Rainforest Rainforests only cover 6% of the earth’s surface but contain more than ½ of the world’s plant and animal species
