“Familiar passages should be read more carefully”. 2 Timothy 3:14-17 (NASB) 14 You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them, 15 and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17 so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.

CONTINUING 14 You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them.

PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THE CONTEXT 2 Timothy 3:10-11 (NASB) 10 Now you followed my teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, patience, love, perseverance, 11 persecutions, and sufferings, such as happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium and at Lystra; what persecutions I endured, and out of them all the Lord rescued me!

2 Timothy 3:13 (NASB) - 13 But evil men and impostors will proceed from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.

2 Timothy 4:10 (NASB) 10 for Demas, having loved this present world, has deserted me and gone to Thessalonica; Crescens has gone to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia.

2 Timothy 4:14 (NASB) 14 Alexander the coppersmith did me much harm; the Lord will repay him according to his deeds.

“but as for you…” “You, however…”

2 Timothy 3:15 (NASB) 15 and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus

2 Timothy 3:12 (NASB) 12 Indeed, all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.

REMEMBER YOUR HISTORY First – our history. Second – Scripture’s ability. Third – Scriptures originality. And fourth – Scriptures practicality.

2 Timothy 2:2 (NASB) 2 The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.

2 Timothy 1:5 (NASB) - For I am mindful of the sincere faith within you, which first dwelt in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am sure that it is in you as well. 2 Timothy 3:14-15 (NASB) 14 You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them, 15 and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

One scholar was asked “Why did you conclude inerrancy of the Scriptures is true?” His answer – “Because my mama told me it was true.”

CONSIDER SCRIPTURES ABILITY 2 Timothy 3:15 (NASB) 15 and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

The aim of Scripture is that you and I might be wise enough to put our faith in Jesus Christ and be saved!

CONSIDER SCRIPTURES ORIGINALITY “ALL Scripture is inspired by God.” “All Scripture is breathed out by God.” “All Scripture is God breathed.”

1 Thessalonians 2:13 (NASB) 13 For this reason we also constantly thank God that when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but for what it really is, the word of God, which also performs its work in you who believe. 2 Peter 3:15-16 (NASB) 15 and regard the patience of our Lord as salvation; just as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given him, wrote to you, 16 as also in all his letters, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which the untaught and unstable distort, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction.

CONSIDER SCRIPUTES PRACTICALITY Scripture is profitable for teaching Scripture is profitable for reproof and correction Scripture is profitable for training in righteousness

There is no limit to what the Bible can do for us, to us, and through us!
