To calculate the number of years required for an investment to double in value, divide 72 by the annual percentage rate (APR) Example: If you invest $1,000 at 3 percent interest, how long will it take for your money to double? 72/3= 24 years to $2,000 How long will it take $10,000 to double at 8% interest? 72/8= 9 years to $20,000 That is the power of compound interest!
