WLTP 6th DTP Meeting Geneva 8.6.2011 DTP Subgroup LabProcICE slide 1 Parameter Setting for Validation 2 DTP Subgroup Lab Process Internal Combustion Engines (LabProcICE) Geneva, 8. June 2011 WLTP-DTP-LabProcICE-075

WLTP 6th DTP Meeting Geneva 8.6.2011 DTP Subgroup LabProcICE Content (1) Main objectives for WLTP LabProcICE (2) Parameter setting for Validation 2 Road load determination Vehicle selection Lab procedures Measurement equipment

WLTP 6th DTP Meeting Geneva 8.6.2011 DTP Subgroup LabProcICE Main objectives of WLTP as summarized in GRPE: (1)Worldwide harmonisation of test cycle and measurement procedure (2)Improved reproducibility and representativity Objective of EU-Commission (CARS21): (1)… minimize the current gap between CO 2 value measured at type-approval and real world driving CO 2 emissions should by the introduction of a new type-approval test cycle and procedures that are representative of on-road driving. Further objectives: (1)Improved cost/effectiveness of type approval procedure (2)Adaption to technical progress of measurement equipment (3)Adaption to technical progress of vehicles Main Objectives for WLTP DTP LabProcICE

WLTP 6th DTP Meeting Geneva 8.6.2011 DTP Subgroup LabProcICE (1) Reported are relevant tolerances and required setpoints of WLTP DTP LabProcICE for Validation 2 (2) Setpoint means the target value which the control system will aim to reach. The actual value must not show a systematic deviation from the setpoint. (3) The proposed setpoints for validation 2 will not anticipate future decision on pending issues. Approach for WLTP DTP LabProcICE (examples):

WLTP 6th DTP Meeting Geneva 8.6.2011 DTP Subgroup LabProcICE (1) Road load determination (2) Vehicle selection and preparation (3) Lab procedures (4) Measurement equipment Relevant areas for measurement of CO 2, energy consumption and pollutants within LabProcICE:

WLTP 6th DTP Meeting Geneva 8.6.2011 DTP Subgroup LabProcICE Parameter Road Load Determination I (not relevant for Validation 2): Vehicle selection for RLD: (1)Tire selection: Highest rolling resistance in RR-classes (2)Aerodynamic features (e.g. design line ): highest predicted sales volume (3)Aerodynamic options (e.g. roof-rails): > 50 % (?) predicted sales volume considered (4)Inertia classes: step width 60 kg (5)Tire pressure: Lowest recommended pressure of manufacturer specification (6)Tire tread wear: up to 60% (7)Wheel alignment and clearance as specified by manufacturer

WLTP 6th DTP Meeting Geneva 8.6.2011 DTP Subgroup LabProcICE Road Load Determination II (not relevant for Validation 2): Road Load Evaluation: (1)One time moderate braking before vehicle warm up (2)Consideration of rotary masses as described (conform ISO 10521) (3)Averaging of forces instead of time segments (conform ISO 10521) (4)Vehicle coast down mode switched on if any

WLTP 6th DTP Meeting Geneva 8.6.2011 DTP Subgroup LabProcICE Vehicle selection and preparation for dyno tests: (1)Vehicle mileage between 3000 and 15000 km (2)Dyno operation mode switched on if any (3)Tire pressure during testing on dyno (4)Automatic gearboxes: Default mode (5)Regional reference fuel used (6)AC and electrical devices switched off, Daytime Running Light on Setpoint: up to 50% over minimal tyre pressure as specified by the manufacturer

WLTP 6th DTP Meeting Geneva 8.6.2011 DTP Subgroup LabProcICE Lab process (I) Dyno setting: (1)Vehicle in same warmed up condition as during the road load determination (2)Dyno thermal stabilized (3)Rotary masses considered with 3% for 4WD; 1,5 % for 2WD, if considered in RLD (4)Road load data (for Validation 2 not relevant) (5)Inertia classes step width 60 kg Dyno load setting tolerance: (1) 2 % > 50 km/h (2) 3 % ?30 – 50 km/h (3)10 % <30 km/h Setpoint: mid tolerance

WLTP 6th DTP Meeting Geneva 8.6.2011 DTP Subgroup LabProcICE Lab process (II): (1)Lab and soak temperature 298 K -+ 5 K (2)Humidity5,5,<H<=12,2 g H 2 0 /kg dry air (1)Soak time 12-36 h without forced cooling down (6h with) (2)Gear shift points: fixed and GSI if available (3)Speed trace tolerance: + -3 km/h (4)Number of test repeats: (for validation only) (5)No external battery charging after preconditioning run (6)Difference E Batt to be monitored (7)Modal analysis to be performed in parallel (if available) Setpoint: 24h Setpoint: no smoothing, no excessive throttle actuation Setpoint: 298 K Setpoint: 50 % rH Setpoint minimum 3

WLTP 6th DTP Meeting Geneva 8.6.2011 DTP Subgroup LabProcICE Measurement Equipment: (1)Proportional fan up to v max cycle, max. 120 km/h (see GRPE Jan. 2011) (2)Deviation Critical Flow Orifice Calibration <= 2% (3)True concentration of calibration gases within 1 % of stated value (AP TBD ) (4)NO x converter efficiency > 95 % (5)Linearity setting of analyzer Setpoint: mid tolerance
