Assessment Criteria for the Acceptability of Cycle and Testing Procedure Informal working document DTP Subgroup LabProcICE slide 3 Situation Since the project WLTP is now entering Validation Phase 2, definition of assessment parameter and acceptance criteria for all aspects are required. Criteria in all subgroups should base on common aims of the WLTP project Proposed is at first to formulate the objectives for the modules of WLTP as e.g. cycle and testing procedure. Objectives should reflect the positions of all participating stakeholders Assessment parameter and acceptance criteria then have to elaborated further with DHC group and all subgroups of DTP. Success control is to be performed during the process and before finalization of the new regulation

Assessment Criteria for the Acceptability of Cycle and Testing Procedure Informal working document DTP Subgroup LabProcICE slide 4 UN/ECE WP.29: Worldwide harmonisation with a global technical regulation of cycle and testing procedure for light duty vehicles. Determine with accuracy the impact of a light duty vehicle on the environment in terms of its exhaust pollutant emissions as well as the efficient use of energy. As many countries as possible would use the same technical regulations. The proposed gtr for WLTP would contribute to ensure better air quality and substantial growth in the popularity of low-emission and high fuel efficiency vehicles. Contracting Parties: Results shall represent real world behaviour Regulation of new vehicle technologies to be developed Limitation of flexibilities esp. for CO 2 /Energy measurement Objectives of WLTP project (I)

Assessment Criteria for the Acceptability of Cycle and Testing Procedure Informal working document DTP Subgroup LabProcICE slide 5 Industry: Worldwide harmonisation of test cycle and measurement procedure (one cycle & procedure, elimination of options) Adaptation to technical progress of vehicles (future technologies to be covered) Consistant information of customer about fuel and energy consumption (Methode, accuracy, selection of vehicles) Improved cost/effectiveness of type approval procedure (compared to existing regulations) Improved inter lab reproducibility (OEM vs. ISC) Adaptation to technical progress of measurement equipment (repeatability) Adaption of emission targets (CO 2 ) due to new cycle/procedure Principle: Regulation based on sound technical knowledge and cost-efficiency Objectives of WLTP project (II)

Assessment Criteria for the Acceptability of Cycle and Testing Procedure Informal working document DTP Subgroup LabProcICE slide 6 Process 1.Definition of Parameter of all subgroups (e.g. Soak temperature, speed trace etc) 2.Parameter setting for Validation 2 (setpoints, methode) 3.Evaluation in Validation Phases 4.Documentation in data sheet 5.Evaluation by experts in subgroups 6.Decision on acceptability for all assessment criteria (Continous process) Assessment Parameter for WLTP

Assessment Criteria for the Acceptability of Cycle and Testing Procedure Informal working document DTP Subgroup LabProcICE slide 7 Cycle definition Assessment Criteria: Representativity for real world driving (speed trace, accelerations, gearshift points, energy consumption etc.) Criteria pollutants (Representativity) Driveability of speed trace (for all kinds of vehicles) Reproducibility (inter/intra lab) Cycle duration (time) Microtransients in cycle (amount, design) Ability to demonstrate OBD and Evap requirements Repeatability (test to test variation) Assessment criteria WLTC

Assessment Criteria for the Acceptability of Cycle and Testing Procedure Informal working document DTP Subgroup LabProcICE slide 8 Cycle Mode Construction Assessment Criteria: Representativity for real world driving (Cold and hot phases) Adapted to structure of regulation (sets of limits for Criteria pollutants) Reflection of technical aspects for different vehicle techniques Consideration of measurement of different parameters (PM, PN, RCB, Ki, CO2, Gaseous Pollutants, Electrical Ranges) Feasibility (Duration of test procedure, complexity) Harmonisation (number of regional options) …. Assessment criteria Mode Construction

Assessment Criteria for the Acceptability of Cycle and Testing Procedure Informal working document DTP Subgroup LabProcICE slide 9 Assessment criteria for Preconditioning cycle Objective of Preconditioning Cycle:  To bring testing vehicle in a consistent state  To bring measurement equipment (e.g. tunnel) in a consistent state Assessment Criteria: Vehicle conditions after precon (temperature, stable parameter) Load /RPM area covered (to bring adaptations in a consistent state) Use as subsequent test cycle Cycle duration (time) …

Assessment Criteria for the Acceptability of Cycle and Testing Procedure Informal working document DTP Subgroup LabProcICE slide 10 Assessment Criteria of Testing Procedure Objective: Worldwide harmonisation: Assessment Criteria: Grade of harmonization of test cycle Criteria pollutants (regional options) Mode construction of cycle phases (options) Vehicle selection criteria harmonised (options) Soak and test cell temperature (options) Consideration of operation modes (regional options)

Assessment Criteria for the Acceptability of Cycle and Testing Procedure Informal working document DTP Subgroup LabProcICE slide 11 Assessment Criteria of Testing Procedure Objective: Representativity for Real World (esp. for CO 2 ) Assessment Criteria: Test cycle energy consumption (real world) Vehicle selection criteria (test mass, aerodynamic options, representative wheel rims etc.) Soak and test cell temperature (real world) Battery charging / Monitoring of battery SoC (consider real world behaviour of vehicle)

Assessment Criteria for the Acceptability of Cycle and Testing Procedure Informal working document DTP Subgroup LabProcICE slide 12 Assessment Criteria of Testing Procedure Objective: Cost/effectiveness of testing procedure Assessment Criteria: Worldwide harmonisation of test cycle and measurement procedure (one set of equipment and data for world wide certification) Cycle duration with preconditioning (cycle and mode construction) Number of tests to be performed Testing complexity – redundant testing equipment (e.g. PM/PN, NO x /NO 2 ) Additional testing equipment (e.g. AP, SoC) Improved reproducibility (less testing, higher significance)
