Walking the graphs Position-Time graphs 9-12-07

Determine the motion that occurs in each section: 1)Direction of motion (+, -, zero) 2)Velocity (constant, or not) 3) rate or change of motion

Physical Science Students Hand in your note-card Hand in your 1 st homework assignment, if you have not already done so

Computer problems william.baker@redclay.k12.de.us Send me an email with a description (as specific as possible) about any problem you have getting on to, or using anything on my website

Honors Homework and reading assignment Due Friday (9-14-07) Read pages 321 and 325 through 330 Problems in the textbook to solve: –1, 3, 5 on page 324 –1through 5 on page 328

College Prep (periods 5 and 7) Reading and Homework assignment Due Friday ( 9-14-07) Read Pages 321 and 325 through 330 Do following problems in textbook: –1 and 3 on page 324 –1, 2, and 3 on page 328

Homework handout #2 Due Friday (9-14-07) Concerned mainly with connecting motion to position-time graphs 2 questions on conversions and velocity

Problem #4a on homework

Picture #4b

Creating a graph from written information Draw a copy on a piece of paper

In the next graph… You will create a graph that represents the following motion Section 1- starts at the -2 meter position and moves with slow positive constant velocity Section 2- moves with fast negative constant velocity

Information for next graph… Section 3- moves with positive non- constant velocity and is getting faster Section 4- moves with a constant velocity of zero Section 5 – moves with a negative non- constant velocity and is slowing down

We have talked about how the graphs can show motion We have looked at graphs and drawn them

The graphs Each student will get a sheet with 3 graphs on it Take a minute to write on the graph motion information on each section Mark on graph the each section should take about 5 seconds

How to walk a graph Students will be assigned to a group The group decides the location of the zero position Show constant velocity by walking at a constant pace – same size steps Show a change in velocity by moving from baby steps to big steps (or the reverse)

Grade Ten points to the groups that can successfully demonstrate the motion of two of the graphs An extra point if the group does all 3
