16 Testing Fitness We know the components of fitness
We know the fitness tests We now need to know how to carryout the tests

17 Testing Fitness When we test fitness we have to follow the correct protocol The Sit and Reach Test is conducted as follows: The athlete sits on the floor with shoes removed, feet flat against the table, and legs out straight The athlete reaches forward along the table as far as possible Assistant records the distance from the finger tips to the edge of the table The test is repeated two more times Assistant calculates the average distance

18 Fitness Testing When fitness tests are conducted it is important that they are the same for everybody so that it gives a level playing field so that nobody has an advantage over anyone else.

19 Fitness Testing For a test to be valid it must have
RELIABILITY and VALIDITY RELIABILITY –be consistent and follow the correct procedures for all tests. This allows results to be recorded, used in the future and compared to recognised norms VALIDITY – Make sure the test measures what you want it to, is relevant to the activity/individual, is a true reflection of their ability and is recorded correctly.

20 Task Rearrange the following fitness test protocols

21 Ruler Drop Repeat the test two more times and calculate the average value. The top of the athlete's thumb is level with the zero centimetre line on the ruler. The ruler is held by the assistant between the outstretched index finger and thumb of the athlete's dominant hand The assistant is to record distance between the bottom of the ruler and the top of the athlete's thumb where the ruler has been caught. The assistant instructs the athlete to catch the ruler as soon as possible after it has been released.
