1 1 Getting Involved in Central Africa Doctors Without Borders/Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF): An Amazing Organization That Is Making A Difference by Julie McKissick, Blanca Gonzalez, and Jimmy Duran

2 2 What In the World Is MSF?  An international organization of doctors, journalists, and administrators created in 1971 in France.

3 3 Why is MSF So Amazing?  They provide assistance in many ways in almost 60 countries to people in crisis.  They call attention to people who are being severely neglected or abused.  They operate independently from any type of government; they do not take sides in armed battles.  They received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1999!  Most of their funding comes from private donors.

4 4 How is MSF Helping People in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)?

5 5 MSF Brings Relief to Refugee Families Who Have Run For Their Lives From Fighting:  Medical care in clinics and hospitals.  Vaccinations for 10,000 children.  Soap.  Clean drinking water.  Mosquito nets for 2,500 families to protect against malaria.

6 6 MSF is Improving Living Conditions in Overcrowded & Filthy Prisons Where Prisoners Are Starving to Death:  Medical exams.  Nutritional food.  Installation of water stations.

7 7 MSF Recently Vaccinated More Than 165,000 Children in Eastern DRC Against Measles!
