The Goodness of Friendship
2
True Friendship True Friendship should include the following qualities in both people: Bringing Out the Best Friends should help to seek what is good for the fellow person. Friends should help encourage you to attain a high quality of the self. They urge you to use your talents, to make positive decisions and to grow into a dynamic, caring and loving person.
3
True Friendship Loyal and Honest When a friendship is honest, those friends are able to be open and explicit with each other, and expect confidentiality. Even when the truth can seem ugly, a true friend will listen, will attempt to understand and try to respond to the best of their ability.
4
True Friendship Mutual and Equal Friendship must be a two-way street. You give and receive mutually, and over time in various different ways, equally.
5
True Friendship Accepting of Who the Other Is If it is a true friendship, both people know and accept each other’s good and not- so good qualities. That is a real test of friendship because it is easy to deal with someone’s good qualities.
6
True Friendship Available and Generous Generous or kind acts may come from a lot of different people with different relationships to you, but these acts are especially important between friends. One of the greatest gifts one can give is time.
7
Levels of Friendship 1.Close friends Meet the criteria of a true friend Not everyone you meet is meant to grow into close relationships – it should not be expected from every relationship you create 2. Acquaintances You know a little about that person You say hello to them and make small talk Examples are coworkers, school mates, neighbours
8
True Friendship 3. Collaborators People who share a common interest People who come together to complete a task (sports team, group project) Relationship does not necessarily continue once task is complete 4. Buddies Usually form around a mutual interest or activity An examples may be 2 people who play league volleyball once a week. They go out afterwards for a bite to eat or drink. The relationship only ever revolves around volleyball.
