2 Starting point / Background  Problem: Seniors at a high risk for being excluded of the Knowledge society  Why ?  fear, scepticism, lack of information  lack of ICT skills and competences  lack of offers adapted to the specific needs  eLearning can contribute  adaptability  self-directed learning

3 eLSe - Rationale  Develop & test a methodology to establish eLearning environments adapted to the needs of Seniors learners  Elderly learners learn to use eLearning and virtual information in an autonomous and self-directed way  Organisations in the field of ICT training for seniors will be enabled to take over parts of the entire approach

4 ICT for seniors – an advantage? Yes, since...  ICT is a challenge  Enhanced communication opportunities email, newsgroups, instant massager, …  Advantages in every day life e.g. bookings, keeping in touch with people, financial records, learning and studying, writing, …

5 eLearning for senior citizens? Yes, since...  Learning comes to learner  Self-management skills  No time constrains  High motivation / curiosity  Setting the own learning pace  No pressure of competition

6 Project activities  Learner needs analysis and follow ups  Learner profiling and needs identification  Learner-centred pedagogical concept for the learning environment  Didactical model for the content modules  Technical development  Learner’s workstations installed and delivered by the project  homogeneous set-up, easier support  Learning platform (ILIAS) as communication and deliver medium  Learning medium and content at the same time  Content development  Distributed development of seven online-modules in DE, EN, ES and SE

7 E-learning Course  Organisation  Two days introduction – face to face  Three months e-learning course  Curriculum  Mouse training; computer basics; windows basics; browser; handling the learning platform, communication and information search in the internet; open learning offers on the internet and eLearning strategies  Pre-test in English (Sept.-Dec. 2006)  Pilot in four languages and four test beds (April- Juni 2007)  UK, Germany, Sweden & Spain
