What is a priest? 1.A priest is one who stands before God to offer up sacrifices and gifts on behalf of men. 2.During the patriarchal age, the heads of the family acted as the priest on behalf of the family. 3.Under the Law of Moses, God appointed the tribe of Levi as the priestly tribe. 4.The High Priest was appointed for a special duty, and the High Priest only came from the line of Aaron. Jesus fulfilled these prophecies. 1.Jesus did not just assume the role, but He was appointed by God. 2.This was the fulfillment of an oath given by God – a guarantee by God. 3.Jesus then became a priest after the order of Melchizedek. He is both king and priest. His kingdom and priesthood is based upon righteousness and peace. He is without genealogy. He is timeless. 6. What makes Jesus different? 1.Jesus serves as both King and Priest. 2.Jesus serves in a better temple – one not made with hands. 3.Jesus offered up a better sacrifice.
