The Tudors revision Write down the names of as many people as you can remember connected with the Tudors

Why did Henry VIII close down the monasteries? Sort out the information boxes under two headings It was a good thing that Henry closed them It was a bad thing that Henry closed them Henry wanted his inspectors to find problems with the monasteries so he could close them and take their wealth Lot’s of monasteries were very rich, owned lots of land and rented this out for a great profit Monks and nuns were accused of neglecting their duties and of being lazy and greedy The monasteries helped to look after the poor and sick, they also provided education For centuries, the monasteries had always been important in religious life Much of the land Henry took from the monasteries he sold to nobles and he used this wealth to go to war

Elizabeth and the Spanish Armada - Why was Elizabeth able to be victorious? 1. Copy the four most important reasons for the Spanish defeat in order of importance. Leave space between each one. 2. Using the information you have been given, write an explanation why each one was important 3. Now explain your reasons for selecting the most important and least important reasons Weather Design of English ships Fire-ship tactics Spanish mistakes English artillery

The English filled eighty ships with flammable material and set fire to them. The ships were allowed to sail towards the Spanish ships. The Spanish panicked and fled to the open sea. In the open sea, the Armada wasn’t in formation, so the Spanish ships were easy targets for the English artillery. The Spanish tried to sail close to the English ships so their soldiers could board them. However the English ships were too quick and could easily keep their distance. Many Spanish galleons were sunk. The survivors fled north, determined to round Scotland and sail back to Spain. The Armada successfully sailed round Scotland. However, as it continued on south towards Spain it encountered terrible weather. Strong winds and terrible rain forced many ships onto rocks near Ireland. Some Spanish made it ashore, only to be killed by English soldiers and settlers.

Weather and Climate

Air pressure 1. Copy the following: LOW air pressure -Warm air rises so air pressure falls -Warm rising air = clouds = rain -The lower the pressure, the worse the weather HIGH air pressure -Warm air rises in one place, so cool air sinks somewhere else. -When the cool air sinks, the air pressure rises and the cold air warms up -No water vapour condenses = no clouds = hot summers & cold winters! 2. Now copy the following two headings: High air pressure in winter High air pressure in summer

There are no clouds so the sun is strong No clouds mean the ground cools fast at night. Water vapour condenses and freezes on cold surfaces No clouds mean the ground gets cold at night. Water vapour condenses on grass to form dew There is no cloud to act as a blanket so days are clear, cold and bright No clouds mean no rain so there might be drought If water vapour condenses on dust in the air is creates fog Now copy the following under the correct headings:

Types of rainfall Convectional and relief rainfall 1.Fill in the gaps using the words provided. 2.Now figure out which order the sentences go in and write the numbers in the box according to the letters in the diagram. Frontal rainfall 1. Complete following the same method as for convectional and relief rainfall
