1 Parts of the Microscope Notes

2 Arm: This part supports the entire upper portion of the microscope.

3 Eyepiece: Where you look into the microscope.

4 Body tube: Light passes from the objective lens to the eyepiece through this part of the microscope.

5 Nosepiece: The objective lenses are mounted on this part of the microscope.

6 Objectives: There may be two or three of these mounted on the nosepiece. Each one magnifies at a different power.

7 Stage: The flat place under the objective lenses where you place the slide for viewing.

8 Stage opening (Aperture): The opening in the stage that allows light through.

9 Stage clips: These two pieces of metal keep the slide from moving around on the stage.

10 Diaphragm: This disk under the stage controls the amount of light that passes through the aperture.

11 Lamp: This provides light so that it is easier to see the object that you are viewing.

12 Base: This is the support for the microscope that holds it up.

13 Fine adjustments: Once the object that you would like to view comes into focus, you use this to fine-tune the image.

14 Coarse adjustment: You begin your focusing with this part of the microscope.
