2 National Networks National Network for Translation National Network for Interpreting Will bring together HE providers, professional bodies and stakeholders, including employers, to develop programmes that will support economic and civic regeneration

4 NNT: Key issues to address national shortage of first language English translators and interpreters concentration on Western European languages in current HE translation course provision low national profile of careers in translation need to develop stronger cooperation between course providers and potential employers

7 Careers days Careers in Languages (all partners) Aim: promote translation as an attractive career path Attended by A-level students, undergraduate students, also mature participants (e.g. 138 participants, Westminster, February 2008, in partnership with NNI) Talks given by graduates of our own postgraduate programmes

8 Themed events Audiovisual translation: translating corporate films (Salford, June 2008) The Life of a Literary Translator (Bath, February 2008) Starting work as a translator or interpreter (Westminster, June 2008, joint event with NNI and ITI) Presentations also by translation and localisation company representatives and professional translators

9 Training drafting of translation module templates for the purpose of training translators out of non- Western European and non-traditional languages (including cognate languages) (Westminster) Training the trainers: How to become a good translator trainer: competencies in translation teaching (Aston, May 2008)
