28. Review A short story is a work of fiction that is written in prose, & in narrative format. The setting is where and when the story took place.

29. Plot The plot is the sequence of events in a story or play. The plot is a planned, logical series of events having a beginning, middle, and end. The short story usually has one plot so it can be read in one sitting.

31. Exposition- introduces characters and setting. These elements are presented at the beginning of the story.

32. Plot Rising Action- the central part of a story during which various problems arise, leading up to the climax.

33. Plot The Climax- the high point of the story, where a culmination of events create the peak of the conflict. The climax features the main conflict and struggle, and usually reveals any secrets or missing points in the story.

34. Plot Falling Action- part of a story following the climax. This is the turning point of the story, leading up to the solution of the conflict.

35. Plot Resolution- a series of events that follow the climax, and is the conclusion of the story. Conflicts are resolved, creating a release of tension and anxiety for the reader. Not all stories have a resolution.
