2 Contractions It is important to know how to write a contraction correctly. Remember, the apostrophe in a contraction replaces letters that you take out. For example: The contraction I’m is made of two words: I am Put those two words together: I ma Take out the “a” and put an apostrophe in its place to make a contraction. ‘

5 Verb Tenses The tense of a verb means WHEN it happened. What are the three verb tenses?? Past Present Future What are the tenses of these verbs? stopcheerplayspin

6 Irregular Verbs are WEIRD! Some verbs don’t follow the regular rules. What are the past, present and future tenses of these words? go see find sleep

8 Abbreviations Abbreviations are shortened forms of certain words. Remember, when you write the abbreviation for a word, it ends with a PERIOD! Street = St. Mister = Mr. Doctor = Dr.

9 On a test, this skill might look like: What is the correct abbreviation for the words “Monday” and “December?” A.Mo. and Dec. B.Mon. and Dec. C.Mon. and Decem. D. Mo. and Decem.

10 PLURAL NOUNS! Remember that plural means more than one! What are some ways to make a noun plural? You can add: “s”“es”“ies” “ves”

12 Irregular Plurals are WEIRD! Some words break the rules. You do not add “s” “es” or “ies.” You change the words completely to make them plural OR just leave them alone. Here are some examples: Child – ChildrenWoman – Women Man – MenFish - Fish Sheep – Sheep

14 Or like this…. All the mans walked to work. What is the correct way to write the underlined word in the sentence? A.man B.men C.mens D.mens’

15 Possessive – It’s MINE!!! When you are talking about possessive, you are talking about ownership or something belonging to someone. There are two rules to remember when you are making nouns possessive: 1.To make a singular nouns possessive, add ‘s 2.To make a plural noun THAT ALREADY ENDS IN “S” possessive, add only an apostrophe.

19 Commas in a Series Remember to use commas to separate a series of words. Where do the commas go in this sentence? I am going to the store to buy apples oranges and pears.,, DO NOT USE A COMMA AFTER THE WORD “AND.”, No! Bad!!!
