7 Purpose of the Catalyst Model Talent Development Department 7 To allow the Classroom Teacher and the Talent Development (TD) Catalyst Teacher to share responsibility for the education of the gifted learner Gifted students are clustered together to allow them access to learning at the level and complexity they need.

10 Indirect Services Talent Development Department 10 Lessons and activities are prepared by the TD Catalyst Teacher in collaboration with the Classroom Teacher. The lessons and activities are used by the Classroom Teacher in the regular classroom. Gifted identification is also part of Indirect Services provided by the TD Catalyst Teacher.

12 Direct Services Talent Development Department 12 Lessons for gifted learners that are the responsibility of the TD Catalyst Teacher. They are developed and taught to gifted learners by the TD Catalyst Teacher.

13 What Can Direct Services Look Like? Talent Development Department 13 Demonstration Lessons Small group instruction Pull out for a set period of time Activities related to classroom instruction

14 When Do Teachers Collaborate? Talent Development Department 14 Each week, I meet with all grade-levels, during the school day for collaboration and planning. Additional collaboration occurs as it is needed. The focus of the Catalyst Model is to differentiate instruction for the gifted and high performing students.

The Common Core and the Essential Standards and more… Talent Development Department 16 LITERACY: William and Mary Literature Units- research based teaching models, differentiated units for each grade- level Navigator Novel Series- Contains some controversial topics to open discussion; examine historical perspectives and perceptions Jacob’s Ladder -t argets reading comprehension skills in high ability learners MATH: Problem Solvers (1-5) Math Superstars Hands On Equations MATH AND ELA: Problem Based Learning (PBL) Inquiry projects Literacy Student Choice Menus

20 End of Year Performance Review Talent Development Department 20 The TD team will evaluate each TD student’s overall yearly performance and End-of-Grade assessments to make recommendations for continuing services using the Performance Review form. Parents of gifted students will receive a pink copy of this review with the final report card.
