2 Aim: How did westward expansion affect Native Americans? Do Now:  Describe events or groups of people who have been denied equal rights or freedom. Give examples from throughout the year and United States history.

3 Essential Question: How free is the U.S.A.?  How has the government or certain parts of society denied people their rights or freedom?  In what ways have groups of people fought for their freedom and equality?  How did westward expansion help reveal (show) problems of inequality within the United States?
