Why? It has always been a subject that has interests me. Another reason is that it effects our community in New Bern dealing with the Neuse.

Paper Ocean Pollution My Driving Question is: How does pollution in the ocean and on the beach affect the animals who reside there?

Paper Cont. My thesis: Ocean pollution has many negative effects not only on the animals that live in it, but also the humans that thrive off of it.

Interesting facts There is a large area in the pacific ocean that is twice the size of Texas and is nothing but swirling garbage. Californians removed 1.3 million pounds of debris in a day of cleaning up the beach.

Interesting Facts Cont. Over a million sea-birds and one hundred thousand marine mamals and sea turtles are killed each year by ingestion of plastics or entanglement. About 20% of the plastic in the oceans comes from ships or offshore platforms; the rest is blown, washed off the land or intentionally dumped.

Mentor I had two mentors, they really did help out with the whole process. My mentors were really a defining factor of my product. They helped me make my imagination come to life.

Product Lead Student Coordinator I would help get people go come out to The Gathering which is at 901 Pollock Street- New Bern, NC We would meet every Saturday morning at 9am to start cutting bottles and hang spirals. We actually have a website up at:

Project Jane Horner- Lead Artist The Gathering is about a community coming together to make a exhibit that is made of plastic bottles and other discarded objects. The Exhibit will be open on the May Art Walk 10-11 th. Gathering:

Product Cutting of the bottles This is picture of Marjorie Weigel separating the different scraps of bottles. Gathering:

Product in the end The product really came out to be quite an amazing exhibit. It is not done yet but it is almost complete right now we are trying to just really put it all together.

Connection My paper is about pollution in the ocean that effects not only the animals but also the humans that live on the land also. That is why my product ties in so great because it is about how much trash and mostly plastic is consumed in the world.

Successes Product Community Getting the Product done Learning what goes into making a large scale project in the art community.

Challenges Paper Time management

Reflection When all of this is said and done I will have walked away with the feeling of knowing I had an impact of large scale on a community What I figured out is that this product was that is was kind of like the process of a play. It is a large group of people spending time money and love for what they do into a large thing that blossoms in many ways.
