11 Mass Participation ASA appointed a Mass Participation & Talent Identification Coordinator in 2006 in anticipation of partnering with SRSA to roll out the Siyadlala Mass Participation Programme ASA has been able to enhance the mass participation appeal in its events ASA has interacted with provincial governments where it has hosted its events with a view to introduce participants of the Siyadlala Mass Participation to formal events

12 Challenges No formal link exists between Siyadlala Mass Participation Programme and ASA ASA is outside the funding of the Siyadlala Mass Participation Programme Not sure if the benefits of the Siyadlala Mass Participation programme accrue to ASA Little or no opportunities are created for introducing participants in the Siyadlala programme to formal events hosted by ASA ASA Provincial members are not involved in the programme on the ground

13 ASA Expectations SRSA programmes should be delivered within an integrated approach rather than as isolated projects i.e. Mass participation (community & schools), Club development and Talent identification Federation should participate directly in SRSA programmes Strong linkages should be established between SRSA programmes and that of federations Funding has to be made available to federations to facilitate SRSA programmes

14 Conclusion On behalf of ASA, I wish to thank the following partners: SRSA National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund ASA Sponsors Nedbank Yellow Pages And Sport and Recreation Portfolio Committee THANK YOU
